Summary

A bold celebration of what it takes to be a cat, from acclaimed author-illustrator Galia Bernstein—now in board book!

A simple housecat named Simon encounters some bigger cats: Lion, Puma, Panther, Tiger, and Cheetah。 Each of the big cats has something to say about Simon not being “cat” enough。 According to them, he just doesn’t measure up。 He doesn’t have Lion’s mane or Cheetah’s spots。 He doesn’t sleep in trees like Panther or climb mountains like Puma。 He’s small and fuzzy, not big and strong。 But ultimately, Simon shows the big cats that he’s just like them 。 。 。 only smaller。

A celebration of both individuality and community, I Am a Cat shows we’re all more alike than we think 。 。 。 if we look closely enough。

So cute! I could use this for story time and also for an introduction into mammals, researching big cats, and even math concepts sing Venn diagrams。 I am purchasing this for my school library collection。

quick, cute, nice repetition, pretty drawings。

I enjoyed the story, but it's the illustrations that make this book a standout。 There are some fun facts about cats too :-) I enjoyed the story, but it's the illustrations that make this book a standout。 There are some fun facts about cats too :-) 。。。more

Kedilerin hikayesini sevdik。 Sanki Simon’u aralarına aldıktan sonra bir takım yeni gelişmeler bekledik, böyle kısacık bir öykü 6+ çocukları doyurmamakta。

Can Simon hang with the big cats? This is a fun picture book for lovers of any or all cats—wild or domesticated。

My friend Jamie gave me this and I love it! Such a great cat book。

Featured in a grandma reads session。We are all kitty lovers, but we have allergies, so every once in awhile we pick up a book that talks to one of our deep unrequited loves。 。 。 kitty love。Big, little, striped, ferocious, teensy, shaggy, fast, exotic and goofy 。 。 。 。all of a type, like families。 Only they purr。 (I'd love it if my family purred。 I've shuggested it, but they just roll their eyes。) Featured in a grandma reads session。We are all kitty lovers, but we have allergies, so every once in awhile we pick up a book that talks to one of our deep unrequited loves。 。 。 kitty love。Big, little, striped, ferocious, teensy, shaggy, fast, exotic and goofy 。 。 。 。all of a type, like families。 Only they purr。 (I'd love it if my family purred。 I've shuggested it, but they just roll their eyes。) 。。。more

I am so pumped that I finally picked this one up。 A fun, laidback picture book about all kinds of cats。 I love that even though they're obviously different, they still have many similarities。 A good choice for the animal lover (or cat obsess) person in your life。 I am so pumped that I finally picked this one up。 A fun, laidback picture book about all kinds of cats。 I love that even though they're obviously different, they still have many similarities。 A good choice for the animal lover (or cat obsess) person in your life。 。。。more

Simon might just be a regular old domestic cat similar to the ones you and I have in our household, but he's proud of his feline characteristics despite what all the other big cats have to say。 Created digitally with texture applied by hand painting, the illustrations show off all the wonderful physical attributes of cats。 As Simon bravely saunters through a menagerie of other cats, they make fun of him and taunt him with his inadequacies。 After listening to their comments, Simon sticks to his g Simon might just be a regular old domestic cat similar to the ones you and I have in our household, but he's proud of his feline characteristics despite what all the other big cats have to say。 Created digitally with texture applied by hand painting, the illustrations show off all the wonderful physical attributes of cats。 As Simon bravely saunters through a menagerie of other cats, they make fun of him and taunt him with his inadequacies。 After listening to their comments, Simon sticks to his guns, pointing out that although he may be much smaller, he has sharp teeth and claws and can see in the dark just like the others。 The last illustration shows that Simon has been accepted by his larger relatives, and they are all now engaged in typical feline behavior。 This one is adorable, and might be good for a read aloud or as part of a lesson on self-acceptance and being open to new ways of seeing the world。 Merged review:The board book version of the original picture book is just as appealing as it predecessor。 Although Simon, a plucky housecat, is sure that he's a cat, the other big cats he meets make fun of him and doubt that he can measure up。 But Simon easily identifies several physical characteristics that he shares with these other cats。 The expressions on Simon's face in several different illustrations always make me smile as he seems so sure of himself even when those other cats are quick to dismiss him。 Cat companions are probably quick to recognize the ferocity in their own little tigers, who can go from docile to dangerous in a split second, depending on their moods。 。。。more

Ok read。 Kinda short, even for a kids first book。 I expected more from the house car, but the lords of the jungle had their own say and then some。 The book speeds along to a very quick end。

Lovely book that discusses the characteristics of various types of cats in an approachable and fun way。 Very interesting and entertaining。

Adorable book about big cats and one small cat。

Being different, being small, being special but still being the same。 LOVE IT, and also that the little cat is named Simon。 :-)

Différences et ressemblances !Simon fait partie de la famille des félins, il en est persuadé; mais voilà que le lion, le guépard, le puma, la panthère et le tigre se moquent de lui : ils n'ont rien en commun avec ce petit chat ! Besides being very cute and having great illustrations, this can be used to teach the characteristics that all cats share。

First of all, I want this illustrator at my wedding because this book had some amazing drawings。 I love how it also shows how just because you are not the same level as them doesn't mean you are any different。 Simon pointed out all of those things to the other cats and then they were like "oh yeah"。 Love love love LOVE this book。 First of all, I want this illustrator at my wedding because this book had some amazing drawings。 I love how it also shows how just because you are not the same level as them doesn't mean you are any different。 Simon pointed out all of those things to the other cats and then they were like "oh yeah"。 Love love love LOVE this book。 。。。more

I truly loved reading this book and the message it portrays to kids! This book is about a small house cat named Simon who is judged by a lion, cheetah, panther, tiger, and mountain cat for not being a cat because he is not as big as them。 By the end of the story, Simon explains to the other cats that they are the same but he is a bit smaller and the other cats agree and accept them。 With the beautiful illustrations and theme, this book was chosen for the Children's Choices Reading List in 2019。 I truly loved reading this book and the message it portrays to kids! This is a cute book that teaches children to give more value to similarities than to differences。 It also teaches about some of the differences between the big cats。 The art is big and has a round childlike quality to it that is pleasing。 The words are not necessarily big, but it is a little wordy, so it is better for intermediate readers。 I recommend this to animal lovers of all ages, and children ages 6 to 12。

Simon the cat IS a cat! He can do all the things that Tiger and the rest of the larger animals can do, just on a smaller scale。A nice book to share -- belonging to a community doesn't mean that you have to be exactly the same as everyone else。 Simon the cat IS a cat! Boop!I just want to Boop! all the noses! The artwork was spare yet conveyed each cat purrfectly。 I like how the artist framed each page with their work and the text of the story complimented the art。 Fantastic story about how we may be different but are all the same。

This book is so cute! A little, gray, house cat goes about proving to all the big cats that he’s as much a cat as they are—even though they all look different。 A very sweet story about differences and belonging。 I adored it!

Five stars for the illustrations, but I hoped for more from the text。 I was expecting to learn fun facts about the little predators in our homes and how they resemble bigger cats。
